It sure has been a long drawn battle for those who wanted some degree of accountability and transparency in the Judiciary. Today, the Supreme Court judges have put up their assets on the website.
What is interesting is that just like our babus and politicians, the judges too seem to be leading an ‘extremely simple life’. Some don’t own cars, most of them don’t own houses and even if they do they tend to be two bedroom flats. From an initial glance, Justice Altamas Kabir seems to be the richest with a house and a few FDs. The Chief Justice has some property but no fixed deposits or shares in his name .
Some judges seem to have put a lot of information about their assets. They include Justices Mukundakam Sarma, GS Singhvi and Sathaisivam.
If these were the assets that these judges were scared to declare, then the entire battle was fought in vain. However, in the future, this disclosure can be used against them itself.
