 The Supreme Court on Friday rejected at the admission stage a writ petition filed by LIC agents challenging the recent changes proposed in the LIC (Amendment) Bill, 2009, which seeks to do away with the commission charged by them and replace it with a fee to be charged from those desiring to be insured....
... The CJI told the counsel, Chava Badrinath Babu �You are a responsible organisation. You are abusing the process of the court. You are challenging a Bill before Parliament. How can you challenge a Bill? You cannot file this type of petition. Can we ask Parliament not to pass the Bill?� When the CJI said costs would be imposed, the counsel withdrew the petition and it was dismissed as withdrawn.

Delhi High Court to go digital from December

The Delhi High Court plans to start e-courts by next month to reduce paperwork and turn eco-friendly.
With this, lawyers and litigants can stop carrying bulky files and start using a pen drive or a compact disc. Court proceedings, from the stage of filing a petition to getting copies of judgments, will be paperless.

Moily announces new Bill to check judicial corruption

Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily said on Saturday that India has drafted a new bill to check corruption and increase accountability in the judiciary.
Moily said this at a seminar on Judicial and Legal Reforms organised by the Bar Association of India.
Known as the Judges Standard and Accountability Bill, it will be introduced in the parliament soon. 


Court 'friend' gives tips in tackling political vandalism

Janak Dwarkadas, senior counsel and amicus curiae (friend of court), on Thursday told the Bombay high court that all police vehicles reaching the scene of vandalism should have video cameras.

It was one among the several suggestions given to the state government to prevent incidents of political vandalism.

This is an appeal for action in a situation of inaction in the matter of Justice P.D. Dinakaran. By now, the media has detailed several acts of apparent misconduct on part of the judge with enough authenticity and credibility. All his private gains have become public knowledge. The Forum for Judicial Accountability placed such material as it managed to acquire before the Chief Justice of India (CJI), who, after scrutiny, has referred the matter to the government. Justice Dinakaran is not going to be elevated to the Supreme Court. But is the government investigating the allegations? We do not know.
